Isabella's room redo...in progress

I decided a while ago that Isabella's bedroom needed repainting and once I came to that decision, I had the brilliant idea that she needed a new bed. Isabella's room is quite small and she has a double bed, two dressers, a desk and a wicker bookcase in her 10' by 10' room. While doing blog research, I kept noticing Ikea's KURA reversible loft bed and decided that Isabella's room really needed this bed. This way, she could sleep at the top and she'd have a seating area at the bottom and lots more floor space. We went to Ikea on Saturday and picked up the bed, a mattress, a duvet and a duvet cover (STENKLOVER). I'm going to repaint the walls soon - pink on the top and grey on the bottom with a white stripe separating the two. Not sure the exact colours yet but we did stop by Benjamin Moore and picked up a ton of paint swatches. The bed is put together in Isabella's room but the room is a mess, hence why I'm not posting any photos...yet.

Anyway here are a bunch of rooms that show off the KURA bed. I'm so jealous. I just love this bed. And thankfully, so does Isabella.

  1. may I be curious? how much is that bed? here in Argentina there are almost exclusively two types of furniture: the extremely expensive one and the extremely cheap, pinewood or woodply, one
if you want sth better, either you save (and pray for quality, because the price tag is no guarantee) or you go the vintage way
which can also be quite expensive, being all hip and that
    I wish we'd Ikea here

  2. My kids have 10x10 rooms (with slanted attic walls too). So tricky to fit all that they want in there.

  3. Marie - the bed was $199 Canadian and they had a deal on bed frames so I got a $30 gift card, which made it come to $169. Not bad at all for the quality. That is REALLY too bad that you don't have an Ikea. It is definitely a great palce to get inexpensive furniture and I've always been pleased with the quality of their stuff. My parents still have Ikea furniture that they bought over 30 years ago and it's all in fantastic shape.

Kathryn - I'm having a hard enough time with Isabella's room size (Simon's is even smaller) but to have to deal with slanted walls too...YIKES! :)

  4. I love the grey and turquoise room by the living agency... It's stylish enough that I like looking at it and yet it's filled with all kinds of toys and 'kid stuff'. I love when that look is pulled off so well so kids can have freedom in their own space!

  5. Man, this is perfect. I have been searching for an updated bed for emma, and I came across a turquoise wicker headboard on pinterest that I was going to get - but this is so much cuter for younger kids.

  6. that's so cheap I'm gonna cry
that kind of money here buys a pinewood bunk bed of the lowest quality

  7. heyhomeslice - i totally agree. i think organization is key - being able to store the kids stuff out of sight but still easily accessible to them. that grey is my fav too.

Hollie - you have got to get this bed for Emma! It is perfect due to the floor space that is gained and when they get tired of sleeping up top, flip the bed over and VOILA! Isabella can't stop talking about her new bed. SCORE!

Marie - I feel so bad for you. I don't know what I would do without Ikea...

  8. Does anybody know the size of mattress? Toddler or Twin?

  9. It fits a standard twin size but it needs to be a certain thickness (less than standard mattress) so that the child doesn't run the risk of rolling over the side (if sleeping on top). I got the SULTAN FIDJETUN Memory foam mattress and it's perfect.

  10. Just found you via Pinterest! We have had this bed for about 4 years now and it was either going on ebay or needs a revamp. These ideas are great.

We bought this when our little girl was 3 and she actually rolled over the edge one night and OUT - to our unrenovated cement floor. She was thankfully perfectly fine, but we did end up getting a piece of wood from the hardware store (it was actually a piece of verandah trim which was gorgeous) and screwing that into the the side railing (outside part). I suggest if others are using the bed without the canopy for little people, either get a very thin mattress or add a little height to the side.

  13. So, make sure you have quality fitted sheet that won't come off and disturb you during slumber. Fitted sheets can be a great way to promote good sleeping habits.
