To my birthday boy, Simon.
Two years ago, at 3:46 am, you came into this world and unfortunately,
the first thing you got to hear was me screaming because I GOT THE EPIDURAL TOO
LATE AND IT DIDN’T HAVE A CHANCE TO KICK IN – NOT BY CHOICE (full
birth story here). Moving on…we didn’t know ahead of time that
you’d be a boy and I was shocked and very pleasantly surprised (I thought
we were having a girl and your father was convinced we were having a boy). Your
father and I were elated to have a son and your sister was so excited to meet
her baby brother.
In the last two years you have grown such a personality. You
are definitely the strong, silent type but when your sister annoys you, you
sure do let her know to leave you alone. Your sister loves you to pieces and
can’t get enough of you. She always wants to be the first one to go into
your room when you wake up and she insists on giving you a big hug and kiss
before you go to bed. I love to see the love you have for each other. I love
when Isabella refers to you as her buddy and I hope you two will always be as
close as you are right now.
At two years old you really don’t talk much and
I’m sure it’s because Isabella talks enough for the both of you but
I can’t wait for you to ask for what you want instead of pointing.
You are so different from your sister because by two years old, she was talking
in sentences and we couldn’t get her to stop (actually, we still
can’t!). You’ll eat practically anything I give you while your
sister is a really fussy eater. Isabella likes attention while you are
independent and like to do your own thing. You never cry, you’re never
grumpy, you never fuss, and you’re not demanding, while your sister manages
to do these all at the same time. You are a momma’s boy while Isabella is
a daddy’s girl.
You and your sister (for some reason) love Dora. You are
mesmorized by her and you even get excited to see her on cans of soup at the
grocery store. You love trucks (or any type of heavy machinery). You love to
flip through books – especially books about trucks. You love to be
outside and you love going for walks. You love to cuddle right before you
go to sleep and you give the most wonderful, noisy kisses.
We’ve had a rough year this year with your dad’s
brain tumor but you’ve never failed to make us all smile and keep us
positive even on the really bad days. You are my little angel and I love you
lots. And if you could do me a big favour and not go through the terrible
two’s - I’d really appreciate it.
Happy 2nd Birthday to you, my boy. I
can’t wait to see what this coming year has in store for you!
Hugs and loads of kisses,
Mommy
