My mom was looking after the kids the other day and Isabella and my mom were playing while Simon was napping. Out of the blue Isabella says, "Shoes. Les souliers." She told my mom that she learned that at school. My mom was pleasantly surprised.
Isabella came home the other day from school and sung a bit of our national anthem. It was awesome how much she has memorized (and she's only been in school a few weeks). The other day in the car, Isabella was singing Oh Canada and sung a few lines in English and then started to sing some of it in French! Pablo and I were speechless. She is one amazing kid and boy are we ever proud of her!
I don't even know Isabella, but I love her! She's awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks tata! She is such an awesome kid (and I'm not just saying that cause she's my kid, well maybe I am...).
ReplyDeleteI had 5 years of French (including 2 in college) and I can't remember the word for shoes! That girl is smart!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck made you want to take french Collette??!?!?! I took french immersion all through school and I took a bunch of french classes over the last few years through my job. Working for the government like I do, I need to be bilingual (although I'm not quite there yet). I'm glad Isabella's learning french, especially for later in life if she's going to stay here in Ottawa. French is a requirement for most jobs here...
ReplyDeleteI dunno. I should've taken Spanish but the teacher was kind of a bitch. I imagine that's how I ended up in French. Then in college, 2 years of a foreign language was a requirement for my degree. At that point, I was already in there and it seemed stupid to change. (Also, I'm lazy so in theory French was easier than a new language.) I can read/translate it pretty well as long as it's not too technical or anything. My accent kind of sucks but when we went to Paris, people were polite and even sometimes appreciative that I tried. I do wish I used it more often because it's really difficult just to try and pull it out my ass when I need it every 10 years or so. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI took Italian when I was in university. I figured since I'm half Italian, it might be nice to learn the language. I basically only knew Italian profanities up to that point (thanks to my grandmother). It was a blast but I never used it after that and now I don't remember any of it, except the profanities cause those can always come in handy! LOL! And my french accent is pretty sucky too which is why I hate speaking french.
